JIMBARAN - Laughter and cheerful voices filled the classrooms of Widiatmika Kindergarten on Thursday, September 4, 2025. That day, the children took part in nanding gebogan, a Balinese cultural activity where they arranged colorful offerings of fruit to welcome Saraswati Day. Small hands eagerly placed apples, pears, and oranges brought from home into their own miniature creations.
According to Widiatmika Kindergarten Vice Principal Ni Ketut Tantri Wiadi, S.Pd., the activity was designed as a blend of cultural and character-based learning.
“This is how we introduce children to local traditions, instill tolerance, and strengthen togetherness within the school community,” she explained.
Guided by teachers, every child from both Playgroup and Kindergarten classes joined the process. They washed, arranged, and placed the fruit one by one, taking turns with excitement. Some were quick to compete for a spot, while others waited patiently.
“When the arrangement looked uneven or messy, the children learned how to solve problems together to make it better,” Ketut added.
There was no competition or scoring. Each gebogan was valued as a creative work, a way for the children to understand the meaning of Saraswati while practicing patience, precision, and the use of simple tools. The offerings will later be presented on Saraswati Day, which falls on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
“After the prayers, we will share the fruit together. What the children arranged will return to them as a symbol of gratitude,” Ketut concluded.
