Foody Class, a Way to Introduces Healthy Food and Explore Kids' Creativity

JIMBARAN - Widiatmika Kindergarten is back to hold the "Foody Class" postponed for almost two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Friday (12/3/2021). Before the pandemic, the Foody Class was regularly held once a month as a place for children to explore their creativity in making food.

"We started to do it again slowly. We started by making fruit salad," said Ni Ketut Tantri, Vice Principal of Widiatmika Kindergarten, Sunday (12/5/2021).

"We were doing it with health protocols. The kids wore masks, as well as gloves, because of this condition. In the morning and afternoon, we started two sessions," she continued.

There were twenty children making fruit salad in last Friday's Foody Class. The fruit salad was chosen as the menu because it was simple to serve. In addition, it was also the best way to let kids know and love to eat fruits that are good for their growth. Ketut said that the enthusiasm of the Widiatmika Kindergarten kids in making fruit salad was very high.

"We had prepared the fruits. There are mangoes, melons, watermelons, dragon fruits, and mayonnaise. We prepared, and the kids served. The next day, some of them reported that they had made another fruit salad at home," she said.

Next month, there will be another menu served in Foody Class. For example, before the pandemic, Widiatmika Kindergarten kids had made meatballs to cakes in that class. But, whatever the dish, this activity aims to fulfill the developmental aspects of early childhood.

"This involves art where the kids need to be creative. Then in terms of social-emotional, kids are getting independent because they have to serve their food," said Ketut.
