JIMBARAN – With the theme "I Love Indonesia," Widiatmika Kindergarten (KB) hosted a Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) to foster a sense of global diversity while staying rooted in local culture. The event, titled "Nanding Sodan: Embracing Global Diversity Through Local Traditions," aimed to instill values of tolerance, collaboration, and cultural preservation among students from an early age by engaging them in the creation of banten sodan—a traditional Balinese offering.
Ni Kadek Dian Riastiarini, a teacher at Widiatmika Kindergarten, explained that the activity involved children and their parents working together to craft banten sodan, a ceremonial offering composed of fruits, traditional snacks, canang (flower arrangements), and other symbolic components. This hands-on activity is designed to nurture a deep appreciation for local traditions while teaching students the importance of mutual respect and cultural heritage.
“Through this project, we aim to inspire students to take pride in their cultural identity while developing an open-minded perspective toward global diversity. By engaging in such activities, we hope to shape reflective thinkers who appreciate differences and uphold values of tolerance,” Dian said.
The project actively engaged students in every stage—from planning to execution—promoting holistic development that spans cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills. As part of Indonesia's Merdeka (Independent) Curriculum, P5 provides a practical avenue for integrating core Pancasila values, such as teamwork and inclusivity, into everyday learning.
The highlight of the event was the nanding sodan process, followed by a prayer session at the school’s padmasana (temple), where children, parents, and teachers participated together. The event concluded with a shared meal, fostering a sense of togetherness and community spirit.
Dian emphasized that the project aligns with the broader goal of the Merdeka Curriculum, which seeks to strengthen students’ character and competencies. “We want to raise a generation that takes pride in their cultural roots while being globally conscious and respectful of diversity,” she added.
The "Nanding Sodan" project not only serves as a platform for cultural preservation but also reinforces Widiatmika Kindergarten's commitment to cultivating values of tolerance and national pride in its students.
This initiative exemplifies how education can seamlessly blend cultural heritage with character-building, leaving a lasting impact on young learners.
