JIMBARAN – Widiatmika Kindergarten held its highly anticipated Camping Day with the theme, "Fostering Independence, Responsibility, Creativity, and Collaboration through Camping Day Activities," on Thursday and Friday, November 21-22, 2024.
“This theme was chosen because early childhood is a crucial period for character building. Through various activities, children are trained to act independently, such as dressing and undressing themselves, bathing with minimal assistance, and cooperating in group activities like cooking. These activities teach them patience, turn-taking, mutual assistance, and creative thinking,” explained Ni Ketut Tantri Wiadi, a teacher at Widiatmika Kindergarten’s TK B.
Camping Day is a flagship program of Widiatmika Kindergarten due to its significant impact on character development. The kindergarten’s educators are committed to providing heartfelt service and education, enabling children to nurture and develop positive traits from an early age.
“This activity is designed to promote character development through engaging and enjoyable experiences. By learning through play, children not only enjoy themselves but also acquire basic skills and character traits. We also encourage parents to reinforce these lessons at home based on what has been taught at school,” Tantri added.
The event took place in the schoolyard, classrooms, and hall. It involved 17 students from TK B1, 18 from TK B2, 18 from TK A1, and 17 from TK A2. Camping Day began with a group prayer, morning exercise (FISMOT), and a discussion about camping activities. The children also watched an animated film about camping, which was followed by a storytelling session to enhance their understanding.
“They participated in group games such as moving balls to train their focus and teamwork. Afterward, they enjoyed a snack time picnic in the schoolyard. The snacks and lunch they brought were shared and enjoyed together, fostering a habit of sharing and a sense of community,” Tantri explained.
After the picnic, the children took part in a simple science experiment about volcanic eruptions. This activity provided insight into how volcanoes erupt, their impacts, and mitigation measures.
In the afternoon, the students engaged in a barbecue activity, making nutritious skewers filled with sausages, meatballs, carrots, and broccoli. This activity, conducted in the schoolyard using mats and portable stoves, concluded with a communal meal.
Tantri also highlighted the creative activities offered during Camping Day. TK B students created paper pulp from recycled newspapers and glue, involving tearing, squeezing, molding, and drying, which enhanced their fine motor skills, teamwork, and creativity. Meanwhile, TK A students played with dough or plasticine, forming various creations based on their imagination.
Following the creative session, the children washed their hands and feet, changed into sleepwear, and took a two-to-three-hour nap. After waking up, they showered, changed clothes, and attended a reflection session to reinforce their learning from the activities.
Camping Day concluded with the students returning home, bringing unforgettable memories and valuable lessons. Through this program, Widiatmika Kindergarten aims to instill positive character traits in its students. With a fun and meaningful approach, children are expected to grow into individuals who are independent, responsible, creative, and collaborative.
