JIMBARAN – In the spirit of honoring and reviving the noble values championed by R.A. Kartini, such as women's emancipation, equality, courage, curiosity, and determination, PAUD Widiatmika held a vibrant and meaningful Kartini Day celebration on Wednesday, 16 April 2025.
The event was designed to inspire children with Kartini’s spirit through a series of fun and educational competitions. Activities included a Kartini-themed collage contest, a fashion show featuring traditional Indonesian outfits and dream career costumes, and a group performance of the national song "Ibu Kita Kartini" by each class. All students from Playgroup to Kindergarten A and B participated enthusiastically.
"The children’s enthusiasm was truly remarkable. They were excited and fully engaged. The entire celebration was festive and filled with positive energy. It reflects that Kartini’s spirit lives within Widiatmika’s children, who are full of dreams and a love for learning," said Ni Made Budiadnyani, Principal of PAUD Widiatmika.
This year’s theme, "Semangat Kartini, Menyala dalam Diri Anak Widiatmika Hebat!" (Kartini’s Spirit Shines in Widiatmika’s Amazing Children), captured the essence of Kartini’s values,courage, perseverance, and the desire to learn,which are nurtured daily through children’s confidence, curiosity, and persistence.
"Through creative activities like collages, fashion shows, and singing national songs, we aim to instill strong character traits from an early age: resilience, self-confidence, love for the country, and the courage to dream and create," she added.
The introduction of Kartini also helped children understand that every individual, regardless of gender, holds great potential to learn, create, and contribute positively to others.
"The children were introduced to Kartini as a role model who fought for education and equality. We want them to grow up believing in their ability to be impactful, just like Kartini who was a guiding light for her people," Budiadnyani explained.
PAUD Widiatmika views early introduction to national figures like Kartini as an essential part of character education. Through stories, engaging activities, and memorable learning experiences, children begin to understand values such as empathy, courage, responsibility, and love for Indonesia. Early exposure to such inspirational figures helps build pride and encourages children to grow into individuals who create positive change.
For this reason, PAUD Widiatmika consistently integrates Kartini’s values into annual programs and daily classroom activities. Values such as a love of learning, confidence in speaking up, curiosity, and empathy are nurtured through play-based learning, simple discussions, project work, and regular positive behavior reinforcement in class.
"We encourage our children to become independent, confident individuals who respect differences. These are the values Kartini fought for in her pursuit of equality and progress, especially for the younger generation," Budiadnyani concluded.
