JIMBARAN – This year, Widiatmika Early Childhood Education celebrated Christmas with warmth and joy. Held in the school’s hall, the simple yet meaningful event involved all students from the Playgroup (Kelompok Bermain or KB) to Kindergarten (Taman Kanak-Kanak or TK), along with their teachers, in a series of activities aimed at instilling the values of tolerance and fostering an early appreciation for diversity.
Although it did not adopt a specific theme, the celebration was designed to create a festive yet educational Christmas atmosphere. Adriani Honi Ano, a teacher at Widiatmika Early Childhood Education, explained that this year’s Christmas celebration began with preparation involving all stakeholders.
“We involved all teachers and children in preparing Christmas ornaments and decorating the Christmas tree together. This was a precious moment of togetherness,” Adriani said.
The event, held on Thursday, December 18, 2024, began with a group viewing session of an educational video about Christmas, followed by a candle-lighting ceremony, gift distribution by Santa Claus, and a photo session.
“Through the educational video, the arrival of Santa Claus, and interactive activities like singing Jingle Bells, the children were invited to understand the meaning of Christmas and strengthen tolerance among friends with different beliefs,” Adriani explained.
One of the main objectives of the Christmas celebration, Adriani continued, was to foster an attitude of mutual respect for differences. Before the event, the teachers provided education about the importance of tolerance to the students.
“We want the children to embrace tolerance and appreciate differences in beliefs within the school environment. We conveyed this message through videos and reinforcement in each class,” Adriani added.
Widiatmika Early Childhood Education is also known for its tradition of celebrating interfaith holidays, making it an inclusive learning space for students.
The enthusiasm of the children was evident throughout the event, from preparation to execution. Their spirited participation demonstrated that celebrations like these not only bring joy but also build character.
“Through this celebration, we hope the children learn to appreciate differences, develop empathy, and carry the spirit of togetherness, which is the essence of Christmas,” Adriani concluded.
The Christmas celebration at Widiatmika Early Childhood Education proves that life values can be taught in a simple yet meaningful way.
