Two teachers of Widiatmika Elementary School, Ni Komang Ayu Tirtawati S.H., S.Pd. and I Kayan Gung Aprilia, S.Pd., M.Pd., were graduated from the Activating Teacher (Guru Penggerak) education program held by the Ministry of Education, Research, and Culture (Kemendikbudristek). Ayu and Gung Kayan even managed to get the title of “excellent”.
Both were the member of this program’s first batch. Gung said he didn’t have clear ideas about what this program would be like when he enrolled.
There were four stages that Ayu and Gung had to go through before getting specific training as prospective Activating Teachers. There were around 15,000 registrants from all corners of Indonesia, but only about 7,000 qualified for the education program, which lasted for nine months.
"It turns out that the education program is indeed extraordinary. It was heavier than the professional teacher education (PPG)," Gung Kayan explained.
During the education period held online, Widiatmika Foundation always provides flexibility for them to do their job: teaching their students. The parents of the students they teach also gave a lot of encouragement.
"I asked for an understanding from the parents because I had to participate in this program for nine months, I asked for support. They answered, whatever it takes, if it is for the sake of the child's development, we will support it. It gave me back my spirit," Ayu said on Saturday afternoon.
"If the teacher goes for an education, the impact will be on the children as well," said Gung, reproducing the support he received from parents.
Today, Ayu and Gung are ready to spread their wings. Like their predicate—Activating Teacher, both will soon "activate" other teachers in Badung Regency and, closest, at Widiatmika Elementary School itself.
Recently, two other teachers from Widiatmika Elementary School, Ni Wayan Sucitrawati and I Gede Karya Danu Palguna, have passed several tests and are now getting ready for the fourth batch of Activating Teacher education program.
"I have shared to other teachers in SD Widiatmika with the insights from the Activating Teachers program. Now I'm designing it too in the Badung area," concluded Gung, who is also the Deputy Principal for Curriculum.
