JIMBARAN – To address the challenges of 21st-century education and support the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka (Independent Curriculum), Widiatmika Elementary School organized a Teacher Competency Development (PKG) program under the theme Collaborating in Mindful, Meaningful, and Joyful Learning: Achieving Quality Education. The program took place on Monday and Tuesday, December 30–31, 2024.
The event was conducted in a workshop and hands-on practice format, involving all teachers from Widiatmika Elementary School. The main speaker was the Deputy Principal for Curriculum Affairs, I Kayan Gung Aprilia.
Kayan emphasized that 21st-century technological advancements have dynamically transformed the education sector, particularly in curriculum and teaching material development. Within the context of the Kurikulum Merdeka, teachers are expected to master the mechanisms for designing modules for the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5) or Strengthening Pancasila Student Profile Projects. Through this PKG program, teachers are expected to enhance their understanding and skills in creating and implementing P5 modules.
“This activity aims to update the mechanisms for developing P5 modules, including reflection and follow-up actions. It allows teachers to collaborate and synergize in creating meaningful, in-depth, and engaging project-based learning experiences,” said Kayan.
The primary goal of the PKG program, Kayan continued, is to strengthen and evaluate the implementation of P5 from previous themes. Based on these evaluations, the next P5 module can be prepared in alignment with the latest relevant policies. The program also aims to address educational challenges, such as instilling the dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile through projects, intracurricular, and extracurricular activities.
“After completing the fifth theme, teachers are expected to master the syntax of project module development, starting from the introduction, actualization, action, reflection, to follow-up stages. For the sixth theme, Bangunlah Jiwa dan Raganya (Build the Soul and Body), the primary focus is fostering habits on a broader scale, namely within the community. Therefore, evaluations from each project implementation provide comprehensive and meaningful insights for teachers to optimize future projects,” explained Kayan.
During the workshop and hands-on practice sessions, participants were provided with materials covering the concept and workflow of P5, sample project frameworks, and example P5 modules. This format enabled teachers to immediately apply the theory in simulations for developing P5 modules.
According to Kayan, the PKG program is expected to offer significant benefits, such as enhancing teachers’ mastery in developing P5 module activities, simplifying time allocation mapping based on project themes and topics, and comprehensively understanding the workflow of P5 module preparation—from the introduction to follow-up stages.
“With better comprehension of module preparation, teachers can create P5 learning experiences that are more meaningful, engaging, and centered on students’ needs, while providing enjoyable and in-depth learning opportunities,” Kayan added.
In addition to PKG, Widiatmika Elementary School is committed to conducting similar activities on an ongoing basis through programs like Continuous Professional Development (PKB), In-House Training (IHT), and Teacher Working Groups (KKG). These initiatives reaffirm Widiatmika Elementary School’s dedication to creating a high-quality learning ecosystem that inspires educators to continuously develop, ensuring a brighter future for students.
