From Policy to Practice: Widiatmika Elementary Reinvents Learning for 2025/2026

JIMBARAN – After completing the curriculum verification process with a perfect score, Widiatmika Elementary School is now focusing on delivering more targeted and meaningful learning that meets students' needs. The 2025/2026 academic year begins with renewed enthusiasm, turning the curriculum from a written document into a living experience in the classroom.

I Kayan Gung Aprilia, S.Pd., M.Pd., Vice Principal for Curriculum at Widiatmika Elementary School, emphasized that implementing the curriculum is not a routine administrative task, but a reflective step shaped by thorough evaluation from the previous year.

"The evaluation we conducted became our foundation. The goal is for this year’s learning to be more in-depth and responsive to what students truly need," he explained.

One of the most notable adjustments is the refinement of the graduate profile. Previously, the Profil Pelajar Pancasila included six dimensions. Now, two new ones have been added: citizenship and health. These eight dimensions now guide the planning of learning activities both inside and outside the classroom.

The school is also implementing a deep learning approach. Quantitative learning targets have been simplified so that students can focus more on conceptual understanding. At the beginning of the semester, teachers conducted diagnostic assessments, both cognitive and non-cognitive, to better understand each student's profile. These results are then used to design learning experiences that are more relevant to each child's character and needs.

"Learning cannot be one-size-fits-all. We start by understanding what each child needs and then design the activities accordingly," Gung Aprilia said.

To support this, the school introduced a block schedule every Friday. Project-based learning, which was previously spread across several days, is now concentrated into a single full day. This allows students to complete tasks with better focus and continuity.

Several classrooms have also been equipped with televisions to support visual-based learning. Teachers can show educational videos or contextual materials that help students grasp content more concretely.

"Children no longer have to imagine. Now they can see directly how things move, look, or work based on the topics being taught," he added.

Another habit now being introduced is the use of sandals inside the classroom. More than just a matter of comfort, this step is part of building a disciplined yet child-friendly atmosphere. Students still wear shoes outside the classroom as usual.

Gung Aprilia also noted that the entire learning process remains integrated with national reporting systems through the PMM platform and the GTK portal. The school is not only implementing a revised curriculum structure, but also aligning with the government's monitoring and evaluation pathways.

With this new direction, Widiatmika Elementary School is committed to providing learning that is contextual, engaging, and relevant to the times. Learning is not only about delivering material, but about creating space for children to grow with curiosity, confidence, and a sense of safety.
