Widiatmika Elementary School Celebrates Bali Language Month, Instilling Cultural Appreciation from an Early Age

JIMBARAN – Widiatmika Elementary School celebrated Bali Language Month with artistic performances and various educational competitions on Thursday, February 20, 2025. This event serves as a tangible commitment by the school to preserve Balinese language, literature, and culture from an early age.

The Head of the Bali Language Month Celebration Committee at Widiatmika Elementary School, I Kadek Kartika Yasa, emphasized that this event is not merely a celebration but also an educational platform for students to better understand and appreciate the Balinese language and literature.

"In general, the purpose of Bali Language Month is to preserve the language, literature, and culture. However, at Widiatmika Elementary School, it is more than that—we aim to introduce Balinese language and literature to children from an early age so that it becomes an integral part of their lives," said Kartika.

Held at Aula Kanthi Widya, the celebration opened with the Pendet dance and traditional Balinese games as the main performances. The atmosphere became even livelier with various competitions, including quiz contests, Balinese script writing, storytelling in Balinese, and mejangeran. All students from grades I to VI participated enthusiastically, making the event not just a competition but also a valuable cultural experience.

"Art performances and traditional games have a unique appeal, as they not only introduce Balinese culture but also encourage students to use the Balinese language in their daily activities," Kartika explained.

More than just a competition, this celebration is expected to be a concrete step in fostering a love for Balinese culture within the school environment. Kartika added that by introducing Balinese language and arts from an early age, students would develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of their cultural heritage, enabling them to contribute to its preservation in the future.

As a school committed to preserving Balinese culture, Widiatmika Elementary School continues to create a learning ecosystem that supports students with interests and talents in language, arts, and Balinese literature.

"Widiatmika Elementary School seeks to play an active role in safeguarding Balinese cultural heritage by nurturing students' interest and talents in language, arts, and culture. In doing so, they will take pride in their ancestral heritage and be more eager to preserve it for future generations," Kartika concluded.
