JIMBARAN - SMA Widiatmika sent a representative to guide PISA implementation (Program for International Student Assessment). For information, PISA is a world-class assessment to see how far students' reading, arithmetic, and science skills are in participating countries.
Besides Widiatmika High School, there are only two other schools in Bali Province, and about 400 other schools throughout Indonesia have been selected as PISA 2022 participants. Widiatmika High School math teacher, Niputu Bela Fitriayuningsih, has completed the coaching in Bogor, 21-24 March 2022.
"PISA 2022 focuses on mathematics. There are still language and science questions, but the proportion is mostly mathematics. Thus, teachers who attend training in Bogor are trained in strategies for teaching PISA questions to students," Bela said, Friday ( 25/3/2022).
Bela explained that the math problems in PISA were quite different from math questions in school exams in general. In PISA, students' literacy skills will be tested. So, the math problems in PISA will take the form of pretty complex story questions, where students need to do good reasoning before doing calculations. In addition, PISA also allows students to use counting tools through specific applications when working on questions.
"Usually, when students are given story questions, especially when there are a lot of stories, they are bored and uninterested. So now the children will be focused on understanding these discourses," said Bela.
Bela targets that, soon, she will be able to influence the students to understand the story questions better. Widiatmika High School students will be trained to work on story questions and previous PISA questions.
"We, together with the principal and the PISA team at SMA Widiatmika, will form a group of teachers, some of which focus on language, science, and mathematics. Then the selected students as PISA participants are also grouped," explained the 26-year-old teacher.
Previously, the Principal of SMA Widiatmika Made Suadnyana ensured that SMA Widiatmika was ready to welcome PISA and had designed strategies, socialization, training, and simulations.
"We have been informed that there are 27 Widiatmika High School students who are included (in PISA), all of them are class X students, both science and social studies," said Made, Monday (14/3/2022).
