PAPUA - Widiatmika High School students I Kadek Kompyang Fajar Krosiawan, bagged the silver medal in motocross at The PON (National Sports Weeks) XX Papua 2021, Saturday (9/10/2021). The race was held in Merauke, Oca, as Oca represented the province of West Papua with his tandem, Nuzul Ramzidan, in the MX 125 cc class.
"Even though I didn't get gold, I'm very grateful. We put a lot of effort and worked hard to win medals in this PON," said Oca on Sunday (10/10/2021) night.
There are four sets of gold medals up for grabs in motocross: 125 cc for individual and team for crossers aged 13-17 years old and 250 cc for individual and team for over 17 years old. Before winning the silver medal in Papua, Oca had won several national-level motocross competitions. An offer to join the West Papua team came to him at the end of 2018. His preparations for the PON Papua have been carried out since four to five months ago in Lamongan, East Java.
Oca experienced ups and downs during the training camp (TC), including when he suffered a severe head injury while racing in Semarang, Central Java.
"At that time, I suffered a light brain hemorrhage. So between the TC, there was a race, I took part in that race in Semarang but got crashed. God helped me, also thanks to the support from my parents and friends, I could return to Lamongan to join TC," he said.
In Lamongan, another obstacle came. Covid-19 cases escalated quickly that the government imposed big scale restrictions (PPKM).
"We couldn't practice at that time, so we went home, practiced on our own for 1.5 months. After the PPKM was relaxed, we returned to Lamongan again, then we had a full training, very effectively, focused, that we barely could make mistakes," he said.
"It was August when we started the intensive training camp. The preparation was very thorough. We moved from one circuit to another, from Surabaya to Malang," the 16-year-old student continued.
Oca then expressed his gratitude to Widiatmika High Schools for giving him the freedom to explore his talents and potential. Thanks to this freedom, Oca was able to undergo training and preparation to grab the silver medal.
"I am very grateful. The school supported me a lot. In the beginning, I was still able to participate in Zoom-learning. I could still balance it with my training program. But, for the last five months, I didn't have any free time for school lessons. I asked the teachers, and they fully supported me to focus on the PON," said Oca. "
"Thanks a lot to the school. Widiatmika is amazing. Oca had apologized to the teacher for not going to school, rarely finishing my assignments," said the young man who had fallen in love with motocross since the third grade of this elementary school.
In the future, Oca admits that he has set several targets to win in other competitions. The closest target, he hopes to be the best in the BOS (Steel Otomotif Superblock) Junior Motocross Championship, a racing competition created by the Chairman of the MPR RI and the Chairman of the Indonesian Motorcycle Association, Bambang Soesatyo.
Oca admitted that he wanted to be a professional crosser. Moreover, he was born into a crosser family. His father is a crosser. So did his big brother. However, Oca admits that now he can't wait to go back to school.
"Of course I missed school. Since early 2020 I haven't been to school because of the corona. Now I can focus on my school again, especially since there is face-to-face learning," Oca concluded.
