TANGERANG - Widiatmika High School students will get ready to improve their literacy skills to prepare for PISA 2022, a world-class assessment on how far students in developed and developing countries have acquired proficiency in reading and calculating mastering science.
The Bahasa Indonesia teacher of Widiatmika High School, Ni Wayan Widyastini, has attended a particular class in Tangerang, Banten, Monday (29/11/2021), held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, Technology, and Higher Education.
"This training aims to make teachers know what strategies are good to use to train the students' reading literacy skills. Reading literacy requires students to read and be trained to have the critical thinking," said Widyastini, Thursday (2/12/2021).
Widyastini added that teachers were given reading texts in that class, such as short stories. The teachers dissected the questions and answers from that text. Then, we looked for the proper method to convey their teaching to the students. Students are then expected to fulfill the four elements of reading literacy assessed in PISA: finding information, understanding information, reflecting, and evaluating information.
"So when the students reading articles, and are asked to find some information, they can know and has used to know how to find information," said Widyastini.
"In PISA, there are various forms of question. It can be the ordinary multiple-choice, complex multiple-choice, essay, or matchmaking," she added.
Students who will take the PISA assessment are students who are 9th graders. Apart from Widiatmika High School, there are only two other schools in Bali Province, and around 400 different schools in Indonesia have been selected as PISA 2022 participants.
