DALUNG – Identical twins from Widiatmika High School, Gevany Ayu Bonita Ingunau and Gevanya Ayu Bonita Ingunau, have achieved an outstanding international milestone. They secured gold and silver medals at the KASAL CUP II International Open Taekwondo Championship 2025, held from February 14–16, 2025, at Purna Krida Sports Hall (GOR Purna Krida) in Badung.
Since childhood, Gevany and Gevanya have shared many experiences together, including their passion for sports. However, their journey in taekwondo began unexpectedly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, they were simply looking for an activity to fill their free time, but their casual interest soon turned into a serious commitment—eventually leading them to compete on an international stage.
This prestigious taekwondo championship aims to support government and Indonesian Navy leadership programs in sports while also serving as a platform for Indonesian taekwondo athletes to sharpen their skills at the international level as part of their preparation for the 2025 SEA Games.
Their success did not come easily. Before the competition, they underwent intensive daily training after school, sometimes lasting late into the night, to refine their techniques and build physical endurance.
"We feel so relieved and proud to have overcome all the challenges and rigorous training we went through," they shared enthusiastically.
However, their struggle was not limited to the competition itself. As tenth-grade students, they faced the difficult task of balancing their training schedule with academic responsibilities. Their packed training sessions often left them struggling to keep up with their schoolwork. Fortunately, Widiatmika High School provided full support by offering academic guidance, flexible learning schedules, and special dispensations to help them balance both academic and athletic achievements.
"This achievement would not have been possible without Widiatmika High School's support. The school has helped us by providing academic dispensations and study assistance during our training period," they explained.
For Gevany and Gevanya, this victory is only the beginning. They are determined to reach the highest level in taekwondo and continue honing their skills to compete in more international championships.
"We want to reach the highest level. It won’t be easy, but with hard work and support from our parents, teachers, coaches, and friends, we believe nothing is impossible," they affirmed.
M. Sahli Mustapa, a Bahasa Indonesia teacher and Gevany’s homeroom teacher, expressed that this achievement is a tremendous source of pride for the school. Their success serves as proof of Widiatmika High School’s commitment to nurturing students’ talents and interests in various fields.
"We always provide moral support and facilities for students who wish to develop their talents. Besides offering academic dispensations, we also provide academic guidance so they can continue learning asynchronously without falling behind," he explained.
With unwavering dedication and passion, these twin sisters are ready to take their taekwondo journey to greater heights, proudly representing Widiatmika High School on the international stage.
