SMA Widiatmika student, I Gusti Agung Wahyu Artha Kusuma, represented Bali in the pre-PON event at the national level, which started yesterday, Wednesday (15/9/2021). Wahyu, a student of class XII IPA, joined the Frost Esport Klungkung team which has managed to earn 42 points in the qualification for the Bali zone which ended on Monday (13/9/2021). There will be 33 provincial representatives participating in the Pre-PON, battling to find the 15 best teams apart from the host Papua who qualifies automatically.
The Frost Esport Klungkung team, whose members beside Wahyu Artha are Made Dwi Kusuma Andikayana, Johannes Christian Hartadinata, and I Gusti Made Darwin Damareksa Putra, now become Bali’s hope, since other representatives from Bali have already failed to qualify.
The Deputy Head of SMA Widiatmika for Student Affairs, Dewi Dendy Pratiwi, said that the school was very proud of Wahyu’s achievement. She expressed that the school is always supporting him.
"Of course the school is very supportive of Wahyu. His talent has been known since he was still in class X," Dewi said on Thursday (16/9/2021). She continued, Wahyu had also participated in the e-sports championship at a campus where he won the title. In internal e-sports championships held by schools, Wahyu has become a regular champion.
"Wahyu is an obedient and honest student who easily gets along with his friends. Among his friends, he is known to be good at e-sports," said Dewi.
"The school supports Wahyu in this pre-PON by providing dispensation and moral support to him.
Widiatmika School supports academic and non-academic talents
Dewi stated that SMA Widiatmika supports the full potential of its students, for those gifted with academic skills and those who have potential in non-academic fields.
"Not only Wahyu. The entire Widiatmika High School students who got achievements, both in academic and non-academic fields, must be supported by the school," said Dewi.
To support Wahyu's development as an e-sports athlete, SMA Widiatmika provides him with facilities and flexibility in terms of permission, whenever he has to come to training or wants to participate in a competition. The same flexibility, Dewi said, will also be definitely given to every student at SMA Widiatmika.
"The school will of course also support other students who want or have potential in the field of e-sports.”
Furthermore, at SMA Widiatmika, she concluded, “there are e-sports extracurriculars that had went before the pandemic struck. The school also held e-sports matches in order to celebrate something.”
