Widiatmika Vocational School Student Wins National Photography Competition

PEMECUTAN KELOD – A student from Widiatmika Vocational School has once again made a remarkable achievement in the field of photography. This time, I Gede Arya Ganendra Laksana, an 11th-grade student from the Visual Communication Design (DKV) program, secured second place in the Smart Photography competition at the Premasa Adiluhung Specialization Exhibition, organized by the Institute of Design and Business (IDB) Bali at Trans Studio Mall Bali on Monday, February 10, 2025.

This national-level competition was open to the public, aiming to hone participants' creativity in producing original works. Each participant was challenged to photograph furniture designed by the 2021 Interior Design students of IDB Bali, featuring models provided by the organizers. The uniqueness of this competition lay in the fact that all photos had to be taken using a smartphone, without the assistance of professional cameras.

In this competition, Ganendra presented a work inspired by furniture catalogs. Upon seeing the provided objects, he immediately came up with the idea of creating a photo that exudes simplicity yet elegance. He successfully captured the harmony between the furniture and the model in a single frame.

"What made my work stand out from other participants was the perfect composition between the model and the furniture. I used a low-angle technique and slightly zoomed in to make both subjects stand out with the right balance," Ganendra explained.

Ganendra expressed his joy and pride in his achievement, especially considering the fierce competition in this event. He admitted that many other participants had outstanding works, making this victory both a surprise and a valuable experience.

"I didn’t expect to win because I saw many other participants with great work. But I’m grateful to have secured second place because the process was very challenging and required extra effort," he said.

Ganendra’s victory further solidifies Widiatmika Vocational School’s reputation as an institution that nurtures outstanding students in photography. Previously, in January 2025, I Kadek Marcel Artika Putra also achieved an impressive feat by winning third place in the Mobile Photography Competition at the Ezzy Youth Tourism & Hospitality Olympics (EYTHO) 2025.

Meanwhile, Ni Putu Intan Pradnya Parmita, Head of the Visual Communication Design program and a supervising teacher, stated that Widiatmika Vocational School fully supports students in developing their photography skills. According to her, the school provides guidance for talented students, offering coaching, constructive feedback, and both mental and technical preparation for photography competitions.

"With strong support from the school, students will be more motivated to develop their photography skills, both technically and creatively," Intan explained.

Furthermore, Intan emphasized that Ganendra’s achievement is not just a personal triumph but also a reflection of Widiatmika Vocational School’s commitment to shaping competent students who are ready to take on the challenges of the creative industry.

"This success proves that Widiatmika Vocational School is serious about fostering students’ skills and creativity. We will continue to support them in achieving even greater accomplishments, both nationally and internationally," she concluded.
