Widiatmika Vocational School Student Wins Bali Cake Festival, Beats General Participants including College Students

JIMBARAN - Widiatmika Vocational School (SMK Widiatmika) student, Angelene Sherryl Setiawan, won a gingerbread house festival at the Jimbaran Hub Xmas Festival last week, Friday (17/12/2021). Sherryl came out as the best among college students and general participants. She was the only participant who came from a vocational school.

"I feel very grateful for this achievement, and this makes me excited to continue learning again and again," said Sherryl on Thursday (23/12/2021).

All participants had to bring the gingerbread house without any decorations. They competed to make the most creative gingerbread house decorations possible at the festival. Many things have to be shown by each participant, such as the technique and the level of difficulty, the harmony of color and decoration, also cleanliness and timeliness.

"I did not expect to win this festival. My opponents were all excellent," said Sherryl.

"This competition was public, but most were college students. Some were from Bali Culinary School, Elizabeth, IPBI, Bali Polytechnic," she said.

Surprisingly, this was Sherryl's first time participating in a culinary competition. Four years ago, Sherryl, who had recognized her talent in the culinary field, had only been ranked 9th in the national level competition at the Indonesian Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Festival.

Since she was in junior high school, the eleventh grader of Widiatmika Vocational School has been in the online cake business through the Instagram account @girlskitchen20.

"I make brownies, steamed cheese cream, croissants, cinnamon rolls, tarts, and steamed buns," she said.

After her victory at the Jimbaran Hub Xmas Festival, Sherryl admitted that she would continue participating in the upcoming competitions. She aspires to live this hobby to become a professional in the future.

Sherryl also expressed her gratitude to Widiatmika Vocational School for fully supporting her, particularly to the Head of the Culinary Arts Study Program at Widiatmika Vocational School, Kadek Dwiatmika Benny Suputra.

"Mr. Benny always helped, encouraged, and also accompanied me both when making the gingerbread house and during the Jimbaran Hub competition," Sherryl said.
