JIMBARAN - SMP Widiatmika was selected among only 4 schools in Badung Regency, Bali, as an “activating school”, by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbud-Ristek). The Activating School Program itself is a flagship program of the Ministry, which is expected to accelerate schools throughout Indonesia to move one to two stages further.
Widiatmika Junior High School Principal, Agus Suastika, stated that this achievement went as expected. This has been his target from the start. Among many competitors in Badung Regency and Bali Province, he believed Widiatmika Junior High School has sufficient capability to be selected as the activating school.
“This has been my commitment, especially since our school already has a driving teacher, namely Mr. Gus Arnawa. This program is also very much in line with what we have done at SMP Widiatmika. That's why I was very excited to bring this school in the activation school program selection, even though the competition was very tight," he said on Saturday (22/1/2022) morning.
Agus explained what he meant by ‘programs that were in line with the Driving School program’. They are innovative programs such as Project-Based Learning School (PjBS), Widiatmika Digital Literacy Program (Proligika), and the differentiated learning system.
Through these breakthrough programs, the learning method at Widiatmika Junior High School has been more relevant to the times, and students become the center of the learning process itself.
Agus believes that if these programs can collaborate with the Activating School program, the results will be extraordinary. He brought this belief to the selection. At that time, the principals were tested on the quality of learning of their school.
At the end of the day, Agus managed to convince the judges that Widiatmika Junior School was indeed worthy of being selected as the activating school.
"I am very grateful. We are very optimistic about the quality of the Widiatmika Junior High School, especially by collaborating with the Ministry for the next 3 years as a driving school," he said.
Agus is convinced that such collaboration is going to improve the quality of teachers and all education staff at Widiatmika Junior High School. He also hopes that the breakthrough programs that are currently practiced in the school will be of higher quality with this collaboration.
"There may be some additions, reinforcements, evaluations, and those are all we hope for. So, the students can get the Activating School program goals,” he said.
From the government side, the Activating School program focuses on developing student learning outcomes holistically, starting with better human resources. The activating schools are expected to be able to improve the quality of education within 3 years and also become a catalyst for change for other schools.
In addition, activating schools will receive intensive assistance for school transformation as well as additional budgets to implement new paradigms in their teaching.
