JIMBARAN – In an effort to introduce and preserve local culture amidst the rise of modern games, Widiatmika Middle School held a Project-Based Strengthening of Pancasila Student Profile (P5) event with the theme of Local Wisdom, featuring performances of traditional Balinese games. The event took place on Friday, February 14, 2024, at the school grounds.
This activity involved all seventh and eighth-grade students, who were divided into small groups. Each group was given a unique name derived from Balinese terms, such as lutung, bojog, lelawah, meng, jalak, biu susu, and juwet. Students were free to choose the traditional games they were interested in, with the condition that no two groups in the same class played the same game.
"A variety of traditional Balinese games were chosen by students for this event. Some of the most popular ones included curik-curik, megoak-goakan, meong-meong, mengkebengkeban, cag-cag, megala-gala, macingklak, macongklak, and megangsing," said I Putu Agus Ariangga Iswara, the coordinator of the P5 Local Wisdom Facilitator Team at Widiatmika Middle School.
Beyond cultural preservation, Ariangga explained that this activity also plays a crucial role in the character development of students. Through traditional games, students are expected to cultivate values such as teamwork, solidarity, creativity, and sportsmanship. This aligns with the school’s vision of shaping Pancasila Student Profiles who are collaborative and innovative.
Despite facing technical challenges due to the large number of groups, the event ran smoothly. Initially, each group was scheduled to perform one at a time, but to optimize time, all groups eventually played simultaneously.
Student enthusiasm for the event was remarkably high. Even from the moment the Local Wisdom theme was introduced, they eagerly anticipated the event and kept asking about the date. When the time finally came to play on the field, their joy was evident. All students actively participated, running around excitedly and fully engaging in the games.
"This is exactly what we hoped for in the P5 implementation. We want students to engage in physical activities with enthusiasm. Since most traditional games require intense physical movement, this event also greatly benefits students' physical health," added Ariangga.
With the success of this event, Widiatmika Middle School remains committed to organizing similar activities to ensure that Balinese cultural heritage continues to thrive and is passed down to future generations in a fun and interactive way.
