Two SMP Widiatmika students, Kenji Dedy Zulfady and Ni Putu Galuh Sekar Ayu managed to qualify from the third level preliminary round of Badung Regency in the 2021 National Science Competition (KSN) for the 7th to 9th graders. Kenji won the 1st rank in Badung Regency in the field of Mathematics, while Galuh succeeded in reaching 2nd place in the science field. Both of them are now preparing to face the second stage of the preliminary round of Bali Province.
The principal of SMP Widiatmika, Agus Suastika, said that this success was the expected result of the school's strategy and the talents of the students.
"This is one of the school's missions, to bring the desire for achievement into reality,” Agus said on Thursday (23/9/2021).
"The schools do have a routinely scheduled KSN Success program. The schools always develop strategic programs to accommodate our students' interests and talents, so that they can grow and develop their golden potential to the fullest," he added.
The students keep training intensively although it’s still a pandemic. The program is held offline and online by mentoring teachers giving their all too. Aside from the commitment of the school and the teachers, Kenji and Galuh’s parents also gave them tremendous support.
"Both also have excellent learning independence," said Agus.
This independence in learning was crucial so they could go this far and got to the top rank.
"I was actually not really sure. But I am going to try to check the old tests at the provincial level because later there will be essay questions," said Kenji on Friday (9/24/2021) about his future plans.
"I am very happy. Especially because I failed in the KSN when I was in elementary school,” he continued.
Galuh admitted that her preparations for the 2021 KSN are just continuing to learn and practice. Besides getting prepared through the tests given by the SMP Widiatmika teachers, she told that she was also actively looking for competitions in other schools to hone her capabilities.
"Actually, I was a bit hesitant and nervous too, but I thought I could definitely do it because I've tried all my best, leaving the rest to God," said Galuh.
"I'm really happy. The teachers have been always supportive, of course. Even though the teachers were a bit busy, they still paid attention to me. For me that was enough to build my confidence," she concluded.
