Surprise Parents by Revealing "Hidden Talents" Through Widifest and Project-Based School

JIMBARAN - The Widiatmika Junior High School Festival (Widifest) 2021 has ended on Friday (10/12/2021). In the festival, which lasted for a week, many "hidden talents" were revealed through the "PjBS harvest" event.PjBS is a Project-Based Learning School, a program for students to learn by creating works and exploring their creativity.

Not a few parents found out their children's hidden talents through this program. One of them is Kadek Handayani, the mother of Anak Agung Gede Wahyu Permana Putra alias Gung De, a seventh grader of Widiatmika Junior High  School.

"Suddenly, I was invited by the school because my son was chosen to present his work at Widifest 2021," said Kadek Handayani, Gung De's mother.

Gung De's work was selected as one of the finalists in Widifest 2021. So, what did he do?

"He made a miniature Harley Davidson drag bike using cans, cables, then put the battery into a dynamo," said Kadek. "The wheel of the motorbike could even move! I don't even understand how he could do it. One day he showed me he put the bike on the table, then suddenly the bike could run," she continued.

Kadek admits that she has known the potential of her son since he has long had a hobby of making unique crafts. But without Widifest 2021, Kadek admits, maybe she never knew that Gung De could make such "advanced" crafts like that. She knew that Gung De had ever asked to bring him the remnants of the cables and cotton buts, which he turned into tires and wheels for his Harley Davidson miniature.

"Since fifth and sixth grades, he has started to love making things and often sells his crafts. He has made his kites, and he sells them to his friends. He has always been creative," said Kadek.

"We used to buy selfie sticks, but he managed to make his own using cardboard or other materials. I didn't know where he learned it from. Later, if he is bored with his craft, he will continue with other (crafts). I never taught him." she said.

The PjBS program began in July 2021. Ni Luh Putu Reza Rosita, the coordinator of Widifest, revealed, based on the results of random interviews with many kids, apparently many Widiatmika Junior High School students liked to try things outside of school lessons. Some often experiment with cooking, music, and making games. However, all this time, those talents were "hidden".

Due to the diverse talents and potentials of students, Widiatmika Junior High School provides four categories in the implementation of PjBS. There are categories of science, technology, art, to entrepreneurship. During their work, the Widiatmika Junior High School teachers also provide assistance and are open to consultation and questions from students.

For the winners, they will present their work in front of the exhibition guests. These are intended to train students' soft skills in writing and public speaking that are considered necessary nowadays.
