JIMBARAN - South Kuta Subdistrict Head I Ketut Gede Arta appreciates learning at the Widiatmika School. He considered that the Widiatmika School had succeeded in showing character education that was pro-diversity. This was conveyed during the opening ceremony of the cultural carnival event held by the Widiatmika School on Friday (25/2/2022).
"The character education built at Widiatmika is extraordinary. I applaud it. Even though many schools have been built, there will be no shortage of students because what we are looking for in the future is quality," said Ketut.
Ketut said that the challenge in character education is the diversity of students' backgrounds. The character of students must be built with an understanding of pluralism.
"If it is homogeneous, character education will be easy. However, the characters that need to be built are different," he said.
According to him, the plurality character education has been carried out by the Widiatmika School. This is reflected in today's cultural carnival, where students with any background can participate.
"We feel proud, frankly. We wish you congratulations on carrying out the art performance event initiated extraordinarily. I hope activities like this can be continued in the future with other innovations," said Ketut.
The cultural carnival is a Widiatmika School tradition held every year before the Covid-19 pandemic. The chairman of the committee, Ni Kadek Dian Riastiarini, explained that this cultural carnival is usually held on a large scale to welcome Nyepi Day every year. The splendor is marked by the ogoh-ogoh parade on the highway, a separate attraction for tourists around Jimbaran.
"In addition to welcoming the Saka New Year, this activity is also a project-based learning about culture, introducing children to diversity from an early age," said Dian, Thursday (24/2/2022).
She revealed students with any religious background can still participate in the cultural carnival.
"Here, we introduce diversity by reflecting on the differences in each other's backgrounds and still being able to work in harmony," She concluded.
