JIMBARAN - Widiatmika School students will stage a cultural carnival again after two years today, Friday (25/2/2022). The cultural festival has been an annual tradition of the school before the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Now we know the pandemic is still here, so we do the art performances virtually. The kids and their parents can watch it through YouTube and Instagram," said the chairman of the committee, Ni Kadek Dian Riastiarini, Thursday (24/2/2022) night.
Dian explained before the Covid-19 pandemic, this cultural carnival was held on a large scale to welcome the Seclusion Day every year, with ogoh-ogoh parade on the road. It was used to be an exciting attraction for tourists around Jimbaran.
"In addition to welcoming Seclusion Day, this activity is also a project-based learning about culture, introducing the students to diversity from an early age," said Dian.
Students of different religions can still participate in this cultural carnival.
"Here, we introduce that diversity. We show that even though we are of different religions, we can be together," she added.
According to Dian, in this cultural carnival, all units at Widiatmika School are involved. The kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, high school, or vocational school students all take place in this carnival, bringing the theme "Kala."
"Kala" is an abbreviation of "Creativity Preserving Culture" (Kreativitas Lestarikan Budaya) as well as to show the Batara Kala play that will be performed by students. Dian is convinced with the preparation. She said that all the decorations have been ready since yesterday, and the students will complete them today.
"The 'smallest' will perform it first: the kindergarten students. Then, it gets 'bigger and bigger until the high school/vocational school students take their stage. So that 'Kala' is shown as a story from little until it gets larger," explained Dian.
